Incorporated in 2011 as an exploration company, AMR Gold has played a leading role in various development programmes in Bombali District.
The company has funded and supported projects in its operational communities such as the building of schools, construction of bridges, provision of learning materials for pupils, provision of scholarships to tertiary and secondary school pupils and livelihood support to the aged.
These donations in the education sector are in line with the company’s strategic community development approach to achieve, the government’s agenda for prosperity and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
At an official opening ceremony in Manahua village in Kindia Section, Sanda Loko Chiefdom, Northern Sierra Leone, AMR Gold handed over one of its newly constructed schools in the Chiefdom to the community. The primary school from classes one to six, according to the head teacher-Manso Kamara, was an abandoned makeshift structure that was destroyed by heavy winds, forcing the children to be sitting in the sun for normal school session.
In her official handing over address at the school compound, AMR Gold’s Senior Project Geologist-Diane Paradise said the company’s ambitious aim is to make sure that everyone benefits from this support to build a better future.
She said education for the communities’ children will bring stability and growth to all families and communities, adding that education is vital to empower the children in a challenging but competitive world.
The Senior Geologist explained that AMR Gold is here to stay and provide the necessary support to the Government of Sierra Leone in achieving its Agenda for Prosperity; especially goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goal, that is, “ensure inclusive and quality education for all.”
After donating desks and chairs to the Wesleyan Church of Sierra Leone primary school in Manahua, Diane Paradise appealed to the school authorities to utilize the facilities provided so that effective teaching and learning will take place in a healthy environment.
She on behalf of the Investors, Directors, Management and staff said that AMR Gold “would continue to provide support in not only education but also agriculture and skills training to the people of Sella Limba and Sanda Loko Chiefdoms.”
Pa Alimamy Sorie Kamara-the Section Chief for Kindia Section comprising ten villages appealed to the Government of Sierra Leone to approve his teachers and the school, which he said, has existed for over fifteen years with about seven volunteer teachers from the Chiefdom. He revealed that since 1988 when the WCSL Primary school was founded, it has been abandoned leaving the children to sit in the sun during normal school session.
He praised AMR Gold’s management for the massive development in Sand Loko Chiefdom and elsewhere. He called on other companies to emulate such good example by supporting the people and Government.
Highlighting the numerous successful projects undertaken in Bombali District, Pa Alimamy Sorie Kamara said AMR Gold has built the first state of the art school in Laminaya village, water wells for schools and provided one hundred and thirty million Leones as support to development in Sella Limba Chiefdom.
During a visit at Kathanta Chief on Sunday, 19th March 2017 to monitor and assess the ongoing construction of the Kathanta Secondary School, the Section Chief of Kathanta village, Pa Bunduka Conteh commended AMR Gold for financing the construction of the first secondary school in his Section.
