The people, which included Landowners, Chief of Kathanta village-Bunduka Conteh, Chief of Kamakwie section-Alimamy Soko Turay, Youth Representatives from Katherie Village and women’s groups’ representatives were informed that the ongoing exploration work is to increase the resource potentials for mining so as to add more licenses. In turn, that will increase the development benefits in the community.

He explained that he is not only here to successfully supervise the company but to represent the investors who have a passion to invest in the country. Luke Rogers said he has been looking forward to meeting with the community, adding that he cherished working with them to enhance growth and development.

As a Mining and Minerals Engineer, he recalled in Eretria where he visited a mine which was at exploration stage and had now developed into a large industry. Similar development, according to Luke, is possible to be replicated through AMR Gold. He therefore encouraged the group to cooperate with AMR Gold management and staff to allow unhindered exploration work. He assured them that AMR Gold is here to stay and support the various communities within the company’s operations.

Mohamed Sultan Daffae, AMR Gold’s Admin and Finance Manager said development comes with peace and security. He reiterated that AMR Gold will continue to do more if there is peace and cooperation between the company and the entire community.

He lauded the presence of women’s groups and urged that more women should be given the opportunity to participate in community development.

According to Daffae, Luke Rogers may be new in the country but he is not new in the mining sector as he has profound knowledge in mineral processing. He said because the Investors rested confidence in the new Country Manager, there will be a continuous support from the investors for the development of the community and the mines.

He went on to say that the company’s activities slowed down  due to the effect of the deadly Ebola outbreak, coupled with the depreciating prices of minerals in the world market which discouraged investment.

“This unfavourable situation resulted in the closure of many companies including Africa Minerals,” he said. This consequently had a ripple effect on employment and reduction of revenue to government. AMR Gold is aiming to buck that trend.

He stated that if the exploration process continues with no interruption from the landowners, AMR Gold intends to obtain several small scale licenses to start active mining and engage in sustainable development.

Chief of Kathanta village who doubles as Chairman of the Landowners-Pa Bunduka Conteh commended AMR Gold for organizing such a timely meeting. He said AMR Gold has contributed immensely to community development and livelihood support. He assured the meeting that they are ready to work with the new Country Manager and appealed for more job opportunities within the community.
