Mines Ministry Grants Small Scale Mining License to Wilkinson Hill Mining Company

The Wilkinson Hill Mining Company (WHMC), a subsidiary of AMR Gold SL Ltd. has been granted a Small Scale Mining License by the Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources Hon. Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, to develop a small scale mine designed to produce columbite and tantalum minerals for an initial period of three (3) years.

The granting of Wilkinson Hill’s Small Scale Mining Licence (SML 03/2015), by Hon. Mansaray on recommendation of the Minerals Advisory Board pursuant to Part XI, Sections 95-96 of the Mines and Minerals Act of 2009 has been outstandingly welcomed by the Board and Directors of the company.

“We want to thank the Government of Sierra Leone for providing the enabling environment for our company to not only come and invest, but to provide livelihood support and job opportunities in the country,” said Dr. P.J.Ketelaar, Country Director.

Dr. Ketelaar assured that the WHMC will work with the National Minerals Agency (NMA), to reduce and possibly eliminate the present illegal purchase of Coltan and other sand based mineral concentrates from artisanal miners within AMR Gold’s Exploration License areas.

The company’s management wants it to be known that the area for Small Scale Mining being granted covers 1Square Kilometer in Sella Limba Chiefdom, Bombali District, North-West of Sierra Leone to the East of Kathanta village.

Wilkinson Hill Mining Company has also established artisanal mining cooperatives and provides technical assistance and processing equipment. The establishment of the cooperatives will ensure artisanal mining is carried out in adherence with environmental best practices, which will see rehabilitated mined out areas transformed into agricultural farm lands that will further provide jobs and ensure food security for the locals.

WHMC is financed by reputable investors that fully support the company’s health, safety community and environmental policies.
